Wildcats wrestlers third at region

Richmond Hill High School finished third in the Region 3-AAAAA dual meet Saturday at Ware County High School, just missing a trip to the state dual meet.

The Wildcats earned a win over Glynn Academy but lost to Effingham County.

Picking up wins for the Wildcats in the 49-24 loss to Effingham were Ethan Wampler at 120, Zach Bringer at 132, Zach Perez at 138 and Ian Phifer at 145. All won by pin.

Several Wildcats earned wins in the 61-18 victory over Glynn Academy, including Bringer, Perez and Phifer, who won by pinning their opponents. Gary Tompkins won a 20-12 decision at 160 and A.J. Vandergrift won a decision at 170. Bryce Mayfield pinned his opponent in the 195 pound class.

Wildcats winning by forfeit were Wampler, Robert Freeman, Grant Foy and Dominique Wilson.

The Wildcats are at Southeat Bulloch on Jan. 15.
