Wildcats to host Rebels Friday night

Richmond Hill will play host to Effingham County Friday night in a region 3-AAAAA football contest at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are coming off a 16-3 loss against Glynn Academy last Friday night.

The Wildcats avoided being shutout of the game when Hartley Seale made one of two field goals for the night. Seale scored the field goal in the first quarter of play giving the Wildcats a lead they held until the third quarter of action.

Prolific running back Ronnie Harris managed to rush for 160 yards on 21 carries but wasn’t able to punch the ball through the end zone in the game.  The Wildcats tallied 187 rushing yards and Xavier Bryant-Long was 2-of-8 for 20 passing yards. He completed passes to D. J. O’Neal and Elisha Polite.

Leading the Wildcats’ defense was Kywann Green with nine total tackles. Aaron Chick had eight, Tyler Williams tackled seven and Tyler Milbradt tallied six.

The Wildcats enter Friday’s region game with a 2-2 overall mark and 1-2 region record.

To date the Wildcats offense is 12-of-26 for 170 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. The ground game has tallied 880 yards on 135 carries and six touchdowns. Richmond Hill has amassed 1,196 all-purpose yards and 1,220 total yards.

The Wildcats’ defense has tallied 160 total tackles including 11 for loss of yards, they’ve deflected four passes and caused a fumble. The defense also had three interceptions, all against Glynn Academy to date.

The Rebels are coming off a 58-26 loss to region powerhouse Coffee County.

According to ga.prepcountry.com, the Rebels beat the Wildcats 33-6 in 2001 and won 16-14 in 2012. Last year the Wildcats downed the Rebels 35-20.
