Richmond Hill wrestlers medaled in 11 of the 13 weight classes at the St. Nick’s Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at Richmond Hill High School. Led by first-place finishes from Will Evans at 120 pounds, Colin Crawford at 145 and Alex Hill at 220, that performance was good enough to propel RHHS to a second-place finish at the 10-school tournament. Hilton Head High, ranked No. 5 in South Carolina’s 3A-poll, took first while area power Effingham County was third.

The Wildcats strong showing included two second-place finishes, three thirds and three fourth-places. The tournament is in its second year. Last year, RHHS placed third behind Effingham County and Hilton Head.
“I am so pleased with the outcome of the tournament,” RHHS coach Bob Parker said. “We had a great day of wrestling, but we were still surprised to finish second.”

Other top finishers for RHHS included second-place performances from Taylor Wilson at 182 pounds and Drew Renshaw at 195. The Wildcats got third-place finishes from Michael Allen at 106, Corey Cramer at 132, and Akeem Littles at 152.
Nick Schell (120), Stevie Gandy (195) and Asael Hernandez-Laredo (285) placed fourth for RHHS, which won’t have much of a holiday break.

The Wildcats are on the road Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Valdosta Invitational at Valdosta High School.
In the meantime, Parker made a point of thanking Ernest Signature Custom Homes, which sponsored the St. Nick Invitational.
“I must also thank my parents for all they did during the tournament to make it so successful,” he said. “This year we had 10 teams ... and next year we hope for more.”
