Wildcats place 16 on All-Region football team

Richmond Hill placed 16 players on the 2-AAAAAA All-Region team, including three first-team offensive selections and two first-team defense selection.

Leading the way on offense were quarterback Kasey Green, running back Maurice Smith and wide receiver Sam James, all juniors.

First team selections on defense were linebacker Nico DeCosta and kicker Joseph Petrino, also juniors.

Earning honorable mention on offense were: lineman Troy Watley, junior; tackle Lachlan Holt, sophomore; wide receiver Justin Jeffery, junior; running back Aaron Bedgood, junior; punter Matt Daniel, sophomore; and punter Drew Crawford, senior.

Honorable mention on defense were: lineman Andrew Purcell, junior; defensive end DeAndre Joyce, junior; linebacker Will Huffstutler, junior; defensive back Ronald Fuselier, sophomore; and safety D.J. Lewis, junior.

Richmond Hill ended the season with a 6-4 record following a 42-28 loss in the first round of the playoffs at Lovejoy.

"This is a young team," Coach Matt LeZotte said at the time. "We have about 90 percent of our players coming back next year. They've had a taste of winning and will want more."
