Wildcats host Evans in 2-AAAA tourney

No. 2 seed Richmond Hill High School will host region 2B-AAAA third seed Evans High School from Augusta in a best of three series starting Friday at 3:30 p.m. The winner secures a spot in the state tournament.

"We are excited to get a chance to make a run in the region playoffs and hopefully further. Evans has a good team and we have to play fundamental baseball to give ourselves a chance to win," RHHS coach Stacy Bennett said.

The Wildcats finished the regular season at 12-9, including an 8-2 record in Region 2A-AAAA. Though the Wildcats took sole possession of first place by beating region leader Ware County, the Gators reemerged as region leader by knocking off Richmond Hill 9-3 on April 13.

The Gators host region 2B-AAAA Statesboro for a best of three series Friday and if needed Saturday.

Friday’s format will be a double header and if necessary game at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. There will be a 30break between games on Friday.

Evans finished the regular season with an 11-9 record and 5-5 in region play. According to the Knights baseball website Evans is a tradition rich baseball school.
