Kevin Matthews (4-1) pitched another one of his gems as he struck out 13 Panthers including 8 of the first 10 batters he faced! He pitched the complete 6-inning game giving up 3 hits and only 1 walk.
After posing for pictures with both teams, Colonel Christopher Hughes, Deputy Division Commander - Support of the 3rd Infantry Division threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
In the 4th inning Liberty County put together 2 singles combined with a wild pitch to get their only run of the game. Trey Sikes singled up the middle and then after a wild pitch moved him to second base, Antonio Smith singled to left field to drive in the run.
In the 3rd inning, the Wildcats batter around, sending 10 batters to the plate off Brandon Whitmore who took the loss for the Panthers.
After Nick Fitzgerald and Kevin Matthews singled, Hunter Hadley hit another single to left field and both runners were able to score on the play. Hadley was caught stealing at 2nd base for the second out of the inning. Kevin Davis was walked and then Nathan Ward was hit by a pitch. Alex Real the senior shortstop for Richmond Hill, hit a double to right field and another run scored. Adam Moe, the Wildcat catcher walked to load the bases. Ryan Esenwein's grounder to the 2nd baseman was bobbled and two more runs scored. With Moe on third base, David Katzman hit a single to right field, scoring the sixth run of the inning. Katzman was thrown out at second base in a steal attempt to end the innning for the Panthers.
Whitmore shut down the Wildcats for the next two innings. In the 6th inning, Jake Lee took the mound in relief of the starting pitcher. Adam Moe hit a double, Ryan Esenwein singled to the shortstop and David Katzman loaded the bases with a bunt single down the third base line. After a strikeout and then a sacrifice fly by Kevin Matthews for the second out, Hunter Hadley walked to load the bases and then Kevin Davis, the 2nd baseman for the Wildcats, also walked for the RBI. This brought Nathan Ward to the plate. On the first pitch he saw, he hit the walk-off grand slam that ended the game!
