The race started bright and early this morning at Warrior’s Walk on Fort Stewart, winds through post to Pembroke and then down Highway 280.

By the time it ends at 8 p.m. Sunday on Fort Benning, some 29 teams and nine individual runners will have crossed Georgia as part of the fourth annual 260-mile Run for the Heroes/Run Across Georgia.

Among the teams are two sponsored by Richmond Hill-based Georgia Game Changers Running Company, which is owned by retired Army officer Sandra Elliott and her husband Ron, a public affairs officer at Fort Stewart.

"We’re just so proud to be a part of this whole race," Sandra Elliott said. "This will be an event to be remembered for all who participate and for those who benefit from the funds raised."

Georgia Game Changers is sponsoring Team Justice and Liberty Run Group. The first is led by Chief Warrant Officer Five Rusty Higgason and is comprised solely of runners who are on active military duty from Stewart and Hunter.

Liberty Run Group, led by founder Josh Maxwell, is a mix of active duty military, veterans and military spouses.
