The Richmond Hill High School boys’ and girls’ track teams each placed fourth March 2 at the Bradwell Institute Tiger Invitational in Hinesville.
The girls were led by junior Amanda Elliott, who placed first in both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. Elliot won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 27.77 seconds. She ran the 1,600 in 5:25.7.
Teammate Rachel Hammesfahr, a freshman, won the 3,200 with a time of 12:34.8.
Hammesfahr took second in the 800 with a time of 6:04.
Also placing for the Lady Wildcats were Savannah Ashe, who took fourth in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 18.29 seconds and Anna Cabrera, who took seventh in the 300 high hurdles with a time of 56.91. Ashe finished eighth in the 300 high hurdles, running the race in 57.82. The top eight finishers score points.
In the boys’ race, Corey Jones ran the 800 in 2;02.96 to finish first. Wildcat Zarrius Walker took second in the 800 with a 2:08.83.
In addition, Tanner Hicks placed second in the 3,200 with a 10:47.6 and seventh in the 1,600 with a 5:04.11. Clint Martin and Michael Wells finished sixth and eighth in the 3,200 with times of 11:23.3 and 11:39.4, respectively.
The Wildcats also got a third-place finish in the 400 from Darryl Dunham, who turned in a time of 52.10, and a third-place finish in the 200 from Michael Clark, who ran a 23.33. Clark finished fifth in the 100 with a time of 11.6.
Dunham also placed fourth in the long jump, clearing a distance of 20 feet, 1.75 inches.
Other top finishers for the Wildcats were Zach Jones, who ran the 1,600 in 4:59.72, good enough for fifth place, and Deon Davis, who placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a 43.1 and fifth in the 100 hurdles with a 17.12.
Naidre’ Williams placed eighth in the triple jump with a 39-0.75.

BCMS wins home meet
Bryan County Middle School’s boys and girls track teams finished first on Tuesday by beating Portal and Metter in Pembroke.
"I was really pleased with the guys," said coach Mario Mincey, who along with Allen Wallace is coaching the boys’ team. "I have been coaching high school track here at Bryan County High School for four years but this is my first year coaching BCMS track. This is a really talented group and they have great chemistry."
The boys’ got first-place finishes from Marcus Geiger, Kimonti Murray and Willie Lavant, along with both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay team.
"I was really impressed with the leadership of our eighth-grade boys, but more imporessed with the heart and determination that our sixth graders showed," Mincey said. "It also helps that a lot of the guys played basketball for myself and coach Wallace, so they know what we expect of them. We look to improve each week and hope to e ready for the region meet at the end of the month."
The girls, coached by Cassandra Donaldson and Bobbi DeLoach, dominated their side of the competition. The Lady Redskins got wins from Arielle Moody, Amy Roundtree, Morgan Walker, Alayna Williams, Alyssa Gholston, Antoniqua Gaines and Jabrai Boyd.
The girls’ 4x100 relay team also grabbed a first place finish as well.
"All of the young ladies showed great heart and character," Mincey said. "There is a lot of young talent on this team and they are looking to get better with every meet."
Bryan County Middle School hosts its next meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
History making win
Bryan County High School’s girls soccer team beat Metter 2-0 for the first win in the program’s history. More information was not provided.
Redskins sweep Liberty
Bryan County High School improved to 4-1 with a 13-99 win over Liberty County on Tuesday in Hinesville. Stats were unavailable. The Redskins played host to Region 2-AA foe Vidalia on Friday night and travel to Bacon County for another region game on Tuesday.
Wildcats blanked
Richmond Hill High School was blanked 10-0 Wednesday in a nonregion baseball game at South Effingham High School. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 5-1. South Effingham improved to 2-3.
Richmond Hill played Groves Friday at Grayson Stadium in a Region 3-AAAAA game. The Wildcats are at Effingham County today for a 1 p.m. region matchup.
