The South Bryan County Recreation Department’s youth wrestlers made a little history last weekend.
On Jan. 18, the wrestlers, who range in ages from 4 to 12, took first place in the Kent Townley Lil’ Bulldog Brawl in Lyons for the program’s first trophy.
SBRCD wrestlers earned six first-place medals, three second-place medals and five third-place medals. Notably, Nathan Furman and Kamdyn Munro both secured two first-places finishes, as each wrestled in two separate brackets.
That was just the beginning. Sunday the team traveled to Hanahan, S.C., to participate in the first annual MLK Elememtary Duals. The team first won an exhibition match versus Summerville 58-15, then beat the Citadel youth team 85-0 to advance to the semifinals.
There, SBCRD downed the LWA Teal team and won 67-9. Advancing to the finals, the SCBR team conceded its only loss of the day to the the LWA Black team 21-46.
Colin Dragon, Munro and Carter Furman went undefeated at the tournament.
