The Third Infantry Division 2013 soldier of the year, Spc. April Walters, will throw out the first pitch of the Savannah Sand Gnats opening day game on Thursday at Historic Grayson Stadium, 1401 E Victory Dr. in Savannah.

Walters is a health care specialist.

She was with 1-76 FA, 4thInfantry Brigade Combat Team when she won the 2013 honor. She is currently assigned to Headquarters Support Company, 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade.

The Sand Gnats are a minor league team, the class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. They are playing the Lakewood Blue Claws (Phillies affiliate). There will be a fireworks show after the game.
