Sweet Senior Day for RHHS

Seniors Amber Nixon, Kaylee Vaughn and Makayla Peny made Senior Day a winner for Richmond Hill High School on Monday night.

The trio led the Wildcats (17-8) to a 17-1 win over Windsor Forest. Nixon tripled and drove in two runs, Vaugn doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Peny singled and drove in four runs while also earning the win on the mound for Richmond Hill.

The three girls were honored along with senior manager Caitlin Alia before the start of the game.

"They have been great; they’ve done almost everything we’ve asked them to do and they’ve helped reload and set the foundation of our program." RHHS coach Angie Hummeldorf said. "It has been a pleasure being able to coach them and watch them mature and grow over the years as not only softball players, but young ladies."

The rest of the Wildcats also chipped in Monday. Liz Wallace went 3-for-3 at the plate, Ally Crum singled and drove in a run; Amber Rivera singled and drove in a run, Aubri Reed doubled, Sophia Lorimer doubled and drove in a run and Ciara Patrick doubled and drove in a run.

The Wildcats have already earned a trip to the state tournament. They play in the Region 3-AAAAA semifinals next week to determine seeding.

Bryan girls at Vidalia today

Third-seeded Bryan County High School (13-15, 7-5) travels to Vidalia today to take on the No. 2-seeded Lady Indians in the first round of the Region 2-AA softball tournament.

The Lady Redskins finished regular season play Saturday with a 9-5 win over Metter and a 1-0 loss to Tattnall County. Both games were played at Southeast Bulloch.

Brooke Barfield earned the win on the mound for Bryan County and also got the 11-hit Redskins on the scoreboard when she drove in Logan Harrell for the first of seven first-inning runs.

Harrell led BCHS batters with three hits, two RBI’s and one run. Bryan County also got some offensive support from Taylor Butler, who had two hits and two runs, and Taylor Roop, who had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run.

Alana Walker took the pitching loss for Bryan County in the Tattnall game. Barfield and Walker each had two hits in the game.
