Bryan County High School (1-3, 1-2) squared off Friday night in Pembroke against region foe McIntosh County Academy (2-2,2-1) for some football action in which MCA came from behind for a 35-13 win.

The game was plagued with penalties and turnovers from the onset and continued throughout the evening as both teams struggled to consistently move the ball without a mishap.

But Bryan County was the first to light up the scoreboard when Redskins kicker Ty Wilson booted a 21-yard field goal that was set up a few plays earlier on a Nick Scott interception.

Up 3-0 in the first quarter, the Bryan defense shined again when Mannie Smith intercepted a pass at the 5-yard line and ran in for the touchdown. Wilson added the extra point and Bryan County was up 10-0 at the 10:23 mark of second quarter.

MCA took the ensuing kickoff and mounted their first sustained drive of the game. That drive culminated in a touchdown and extra point with less than a minute to halftime and pushed the score to 10-7.

MCA soon recovered a Bryan County fumble at the Redskins’ 33-yard line and drove the ball down for another touchdown and extra point with seven seconds left in the first half. From there, the Buccaneers found themselves with a 14-10 lead.

MCA recovered a Bryan fumble to start the second half and added two more touchdowns in the third quarter and extended their lead to 28-13.

Bryan County got on the board one final time in the third quarter when Wilson muscled through a 52-yard field goal to make it 28-13. But MCA continued to capitalize on Bryan County turnovers and pushed across another touchdown run at the 10:09 mark of the fourth quarter.

Bryan County collected 11 penalties for 95 yards along with six turnovers on the evening. The Redskins managed only 108 ytards of total offense on the night.

Dashon Dixon led the Redskins defensively with 7.5 tackles while Scott had 7.

MCA running back, Nick Cummings finished the night with 23 carries for 135 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense.

Bryan County platys at Long County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
