The Richmond Hill wrestling team placed fifth at Saturday’s regional duals tournament in Statesboro.

The Wildcats finished behind first-place Camden County, Effingham County, Ware County and Coffee. Richmond Hill beat Brunswick 48-23 in its first dual of the day. The Wildcats lost 39-33 to Ware in the semifinals and fell to Coffee in a wrestleback. No score was reported for that dual.

“Our kids laid it all on the mat in the loss to Ware,” RHHS head coach Robert Parker said. “I am proud of how hard they wrestled on Saturday and look forward to the rest of the season.”

The top two placing teams — Camden and Effingham — earned the right to go to the state duals meet, which is this weekend in Macon.

The Wildcats were scheduled to host a dual against Ware and Hilton Head on Tuesday and compete in the Islands Quad on Wednesday. Results were unavailable at press time.

RHHS next competes in the Shark Fight Invitational next Wednesday and Thursday at Islands High School.
