The Richmond Hill baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Bradwell Institute at home Wednesday night with a 9-0 win, securing the No. 2 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA.

The Wildcats and Glynn Academy finished the regular season with identical 9-3 records in the region, but the Terrors won the region title by virtue of taking two out of three games against Richmond Hill. The Wildcats had won four consecutive region championships.

“It speaks volumes about these guys that they were in a position to win the region this year,” Wildcats Coach Stacy Bennett said. “We graduated nine seniors last year and eight the year before and this year’s seniors didn’t have a lot of experience. Everyone just wrote us off.”

Richmond Hill will host the No. 3 seed from Region 4-AAAAAA for a double-header on April 28, with the “if necessary” game on April 29. Game times have not yet been announced.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Braden Henle reached first on a bunt and advanced to second on a wild throw, then went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Chris Sewell’s double. Sewell eventually scored on a triple by Will McGrath for a 2-0 lead.

Henle scored again in the third inning when he singled and stole second base, then came home on a Kip Gibson single.

Foster Reynolds got things rolling in the fourth inning with a stand-up triple, despite losing a shoe between first and second base. He scored on a wild pitch before Grayson Padgett drew a walk. Padgett stole second and advanced to third on an overthrow, then scored on Rick Mitchell’s single to give Richmond Hill a 5-0 lead.

McGrath started off the fifth inning with a walk, then advanced to third base on Wes Daniel’s double. McGrath scored when Reynolds hit into a fielder’s choice down the first base line, which also moved Daniel over to third. Daniel then scored on Padgett’s single, making it 7-0.

Gibson led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, and courtesy runner Will Shuman advanced to third on a single by Sewell and a walk to McGrath. Shuman would score on a single by Daniel, and McGrath later scored on a single by Tanner Woodie to close out the scoring.

The Wildcats finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-10.
