Richmond Hill volleyball fans who made the trip Thursday to watch the team’s state playoff opener near Atlanta got their money’s worth.
The Wildcats beat Drew in five sets to advance to the Sweet 16 of the AAAAAA tournament.
Richmond Hill dropped the first set 21-15, then evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-23 win. The Titans took a 2-1 lead with a 25-17 win in the third set, following by Richmond Hill’s 27-25 victory in the fourth set.
The Wildcats pulled away in the fifth and deciding set with a 15-5 win.
“Drew had excellent and consistent defense, which made it difficult to get our offense going,” Richmond Hill Coach Taisa Tremble said. “We were able to hold onto the match by keeping our serve receive and serves consistent.”
Mackenzie Petermann led the Wildcats with 26 kills and 15 digs on the night. Sekala Goodwin added seven kills and Skyla Wellington had 11 aces.
