RH track sending 14 to state meet

The Richmond Hill track and field team is sending 14 athletes to the state meet after a successful day at sectionals.

Coach Levi Sybert said that is the most state meet qualifiers in program history.

“I think we are sitting well for a top three finish,” Sybert said. “It will take a flawless execution for all athletes to get to the podium.”

On the girls’ side, Daryn Pettit and Kayla Gholar both qualified in the 800 and 1600, while Rebekah Wilder qualified in the 3200. Hannah Bryan and Kalia White also qualified in the high jump and 300 hurdles, respectively.

For the boys, L’Marqez Prather qualified in four events — the 100, 200, long jump and as part of the 4x100 relay along with Matthew Clark, Sam James and Demond Fleming. James also qualified in the 200 and 400, while Fleming qualified in the 300 hurdles and as part of the 4x400 relay with James, Jordan Perkins and Rakim Gonzales.

Gonzalez also qualified in the pole vault. Jacob Hedgepeth qualified in the 1600 and 3200, while Jalen Murray qualified in the 800 and 1600. Rakeem Littles qualified in the 3200.

The state meet is May 11-13 in Carrollton.

All-Region picks for spring sports announced
RHHS Wildcats

Richmond Hill placed several players on their respective All-Region teams in Region 2-AAAAAA for tennis and soccer after all four teams made it to their respective state tournaments this spring.

In girls’ soccer, first-team selections were Grace Kiser, Ruthie Riley, Carly Vargas and Ellie Filamonczuk. Honorable mention went to Bella Martinez. Arianna Page and Lexi Merry.

For boys’ soccer, Joseph Petrino, Agboade Sobowale, Roman Alvarez, Trever Blitchington and Cristian Marquez made first team.

For girls’ tennis, Hannah Yontz, Megan Bausch and Stephanie Harter all made the second team at singles, as did the doubles team of Bailey Lopata and Caren Bausch.

For the boys, Jackson Martin was first team singles and Alec Shermer was second team singles. Zach Sewell received honorable mention.
