The Richmond Hill girls’ soccer team beat Allatoona 3-2 at home Tuesday night to advance to the Elite 8 for the fourth year in a row.

The Wildcats got goals from Logan Martin, Hailey Rey and Makayla Nudo, while Nudo and Madeline Martinson each had an assist.

“We knew they’d be tough because we played them two years ago and they were all freshmen and sophomores and it was a close game,” Richmond Hill Coach Steve Kollman said.

The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead in the first half, then scored the first goal of the second half for a 3-1 lead. Allatoona scored its final goal with about 10 minutes left in the game.

“They scored both of their goals off of corner kicks, which we didn’t defend very well,” Kollman said. “But our midfielders and forwards were a little quicker and had a bit more foot skill so we were able to keep possession of the ball at the end of the game.”

Isabella Martinez had five saves in goal for Richmond Hill.

The Wildcats, now 12-7-1, host Johns Creek Friday. Game time is to be determined.

Richmond Hill opened the state tournament with a 10-0 win over Forest Park at home last Thursday night.

The Wildcats got on the board less than four minutes into the game on a goal by Carly Vargas and built an 8-0 lead by halftime.

Vargas, Nudo and Olivia Filamonczuk each scored two goals, while Peyton Butler, Jada Carnine, Grace Kiser and Samantha Howley added one each.

Martinson, Anna Busteed, Carnine, Ally Denius, Martin and Kiser had one assist apiece. Neither Martinez nor Bailey King faced any shots on goal.
