Redskins, Wildcats win; softball, volleyball players honored

Redskins triumphant
Senior standout Nick Scott ran for 297 yards and four touchdowns to lead Bryan County High School to a 28-14 win over Metter on Friday in the battle for third in Region 2-AA.
The Redskins, who trailed 14-7 at halftime, scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to improve to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the region.
Linebacker Damion Dixon led the defense with 16 tackles while Scott added 13. Markus Johnson and Aaron Wells had 10 tackles each for BCHS, which plays host to Bacon County this week in the final regular season game of the season.
The Redskins are projected as the No. 3 seed from Region 2-AA by the Georgia High School Football Daily and expected to travel to Bleckley County next week in the opening round of the state Class AA playoffs.

Wildcats keep rolling
Ronnie Harris carried 12 times for 114 yards and a score and Nick Fitzgerald added 11 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns to help lead Richmond Hill High School to a 41-21 win over Jenkins on Friday at Wildcat Stadium.
The win assured RHHS (8-1, 5-1) of a second place finish in Region 3-AAAAA.
Fitzgerald, a 6-foot-5 Mississippi State commit in his first year as a starting quarterback at Richmond Hill, also completed 3-of-9 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Michael Clark caught the 65-yard touchdown pass from Fitzgerald.
Senior fullback Daniel Winters and freshman running back Elijah Polite also scored touchdowns for RHHS.
The Wildcats’ defense had four interceptions, two from defensive back Darius Brown, one by defensive back Martial Washington and one by linebacker Nathan Soliata. Tyler Williams and Demetrius Williams had nine and eight tackles, respectively, and Williams recovered a Jenkins fumble.
Richmond Hill, which hosts Windsor Forest in the season finale this week, is projected as the No. 2 seed from 3-AAAAA to play host to Harris County next week in the first round of the state Class AAAAA playoffs.

All-Region Lady Redskins
Bryan County High School placed seven players on the coaches’ All Region 2-AA softball team, it was announced Monday.
Sophomore pitcher Brook Barfield, junior catcher Logan Harrell and sophomore utility player Kaylin Leggett made first-team All Region. Senior infielder Alana Walker was named to the second team and sophomore infielder Layton Harrell, junior outfielder Kaylee Perks and sophomore outfielder Brooklynn Williams earned honorable mention. Bryan County High School finished 22-14 and came within a run of advancing to the Class AA Elite Eight this fall under coach Al Butler.

Volleyball players honored
Richmond Hill High School volleyball players Sarah Strazza, Kristen Sparks and Chandler Holmes earned first-team All Area 3-AAAAA honors while teammate Sophia Hofeling was named to the second team.
The Lady Wildcats finished the season 21-19 to take second in 3-AAAAA and advance to the state playoffs for the fourth time in the fledgling program’s first five seasons under coach Ashleigh Davis-Lee.
