Rec wrestlers fare well at Iron Man

South Bryan County Recreation Department wrestlers Tate Evans, Trenton Higginbotham and Yhsaac Bringer brought home first-place finishes in their respective weight classes in the iron-man competition during the Georgia State Games held April 27-28 in Marietta.
The event included more than 100 wrestlers from clubs around the state who competed in six divisions in freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle wrestling.
Tate, who wrestled in the 10U 80-87 pound class, placed first in freestyle, second in Greco-Roman, first in folkstyle and first in iron man.
Higginbotham, who also took first in iron man, competed in the 14U 91-pound category, where he placed fifth in freestyle, fourth in Greco-Roman and second in folkstyle wrestling.
Bringer, wrestling in the 120-128-pound weight class in the 14U category, took second in freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle. He was first in the Iron man competition.
 In order to be eligible to compete in the Iron Man, wrestlers had to participate in each style of wrestling.

Summer hoops camp
Bryan County High School’s sixth annual Summer Shootout Basketball Camp is June 3-5 at BCHS.
For boys and girls who will be in grades 2-9 next school year, the camp is from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $35 per child and $30 for each additional family member through May 17. Kids who register before May 17 will receive a free camp T-shirt.
Late registration is $40 for the first child and $35 for each additional family member.  Concessions will be available, students can bring money for snacks. The camp staff will include coaches and varsity players from the Lady Redskins. Stop by Bryan County Middle School or BCHS for an application and complete brochure. Summer baseball camp
Richmond Hill High School’s 2013 Baseball/Softball Camp is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3-5 at RHHS.
The camp will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, bunting, situational hitting, fielding, base running, agility, speed, strength and conditioning. Participants should bring bat, helmet, glove, cleats and gym shoes. They should also wear baseball pants and protective gear. Each camper can bring their own lunch or buy  snacks from the concession stand.
Cost is $75 and includes a T-shirt. Space is limited to ensure a productive player/instructor ratio. Deadline to register is June 1. For more information email cstacybennettjr@yahoo.com.

Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K, Relay
The first Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K & Relay is July 27 at DeVaul Henderson Park in Richmond Hill.
Sponsored by Georgia Game Changers Running Company and Jalapeños, the cost is $25 for the 5K, $20 per individual for the relay race and the kid’s relay is free.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in each category. The top overall male and female runner will receiver a Suunoto Core multi-function watch.  Race proceeds will benefit the Thornwell Home for Children.
