Martial-art clubs Flyers Taekwon-Do and the Richmond Hill Ju-Jitsu Center have joined to share the dojo at 2479 Highway 17 South in Richmond Hill, according to a news release.

To mark the move, an open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
“Sensei (John) Glimmerveen and I have very similar views on how to operate a professional martial art studio, so it makes sense to combine our resources in Richmond Hill,” said Lawrence Greene of the Flyers.

Glimmerveen also is pleased with the change.
“Although we have two very different styles with Japanese jiujitsu and Korean taek won do (TKD), master Greene and I have always had a close working relationship,” he said.

The clubs will maintain their independence on the mat, with Greene’s TKD instruction and Glimmerveen teaching the World Ju-Jitsu Federation’s syllabus.

In addition to martial-art courses, Bob Schneider and his wife Anna of Renegade Fitness offer men and women one-on-one and small-group fitness workouts.

In addition to a ribbon-cutting at 11:30 a.m. and demonstrations by the respective display teams Saturday, the senior instructors will be available to answer questions.
