Several local high school graduates recorded successful outings Saturday both on the football field and soccer pitch.

Richmond Hill alum Sh'nia Gordon scored the first goal for the West Virginia women's soccer team as the No. 6 ranked Mountaineers upset the No. 1 ranked Nittany Lions of Penn State 2-1. WVU is now 3-1 on the season.

Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald, another former Wildcat, led the Bulldogs to a 49-0 win over Charleston Southern. Fitzgerald completed 16-of-29 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns while running for 41 yards and another score.

Another former Richmond Hill quarterback, Dominique Allen, had 91 rushing yards as The Citadel beat Newberry 31-14.

And Bryan County alum Nick Scott scored Albany State's first touchdown of the year in a 29-12 win over Valdosta State. The senior defensive back had a pick-six with 12:26 left in the first quarter on a 74-yard interception return. It was the first win for the Golden Rams over the Blazers since 2004.

Scott, a pre-season all-conference selection in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, recorded 48 tackles last season and had two interceptions.
