Lady Redskins sweep Truetlen County, clinch state playoff berth

Correction: Bryan County will play on Tuesday in the second round of the Region 3-A playoffs, not Saturday. The bracket drawn up by the region had the wrong date.


Bryan County swept Truetlen 7-2 and 8-0 today in Pembroke to advance to the second round of the Region 3-A softball tournament.

The wins also clinch a state  playoff berth for the Lady Redskin (23-7), who are ranked No. 3 in Class A and have advanced to the Class A Final Four three of the past four seasons.

The Lady Redskins (24-7) will play the winner of Metter and Johnson County on Tuesday at Georgia Southern in Statesboro.

 

Tiffany Howard threw a perfect five-inning game in the opener, striking out 11.

Sierra Newman, Taylor Butler and McKenzie Covington had two hits each for the Lady Redskins, who improved to 23-7.

Howard also pitched in the nightcap, scattering five hits and striking out 11. Butler, Jenna Schuman, Alana Walker and Sierra Cornell each had a hit for the Lady Redskins, who took advantage of seven errors by Truetlen County.
