Two former Richmond Hill football players have been placed on award watch lists for the upcoming college season.

Nick Fitzgerald, junior quarterback at Mississippi State, is on the list for the Maxwell Award, given to the best all-around college player by a panel of sports journalists and coaches.

Canon Rooker, a senior kicker at Middle Tennessee State, is on the list for the Lou Groza Award, presented to the top place-kicker in the country by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Fitzgerald threw for 2,423 yards and 21 touchdowns while running for another 1,375 yards and 16 touchdowns last year. The Bulldogs finished 6-7 overall, 3-5 in the SEC.

Rooker set the MTSU record for most points by a kicker in a season last year with 112. He was 16-of-19 on field goals and 64-of-66 on extra points. The Blue Raiders finished 8-5 overall last year, 5-3 in Conference USA.
