Richmond Hill High School cross country standout Amanda Elliott edged teammate Rachel Hammesfahr to place first at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational on Saturday at Heritage High School in Conyers.
Elliott finished the 2.97 course in 19 minutes and 32 seconds. Hammesfahr placed second with a time of 19:33. The two outpaced a field of 170 varsity runners.
Other top finishers for RHHS in the girls’ race were Emily Hollowell, who placed 22nd; Alexis Arai, who was 44th; Alycia Ussery, 62nd; Rachel Shepherd, 64th; and Chloe Giorgianni, 58th. Nadia Gaines was 75th.
In the boys’ race, Corey Jones took second and Tanner Hicks placed fourth to place the Wildcats. Jones covered the course in 16:17 while Hicks finished in 16:47.
A field of 206 runners from 23 teams competed in the boys’ race. Other finishers for the Wildcats were Zarrius Walker, 51st; Michael Wells, 69th; Garrett Franzel, 70th; Zach Jones, 75th; Kevin Zhu, no place mentioned, and Ryan Donna, 95th.

Lady Wildcats advance
Richmond Hill High School picked up a pair of wins Thursday in the first round of the Region 3-AAAAA softball tournament held at the North Glynn Recreation Complex.
The Lady Wildcats (21-6, 7-1) knocked off Bradwell Institute 11-0 in the first round behind a no-hitter from pitcher Morgan Hunter. Ciara Patrick was 2-for-3 with a double; Liz Wallace doubled; Taylor Rine was 2-for-3 with a double and Cristy Davenport was 2-for-2 with a doube for RHHS.
In the second round, RHHS held off Ware County 5-4 in eight innings. Sam Mault got the win while Katie Perry doubled and had two RBIs; Sophia Lorimer was 2-for-3 with a homer and RBI and Amber Rivera had a double.
The region tournament continues next week.
