DNR rifle classes start in February

MANSFIELD — For hunting enthusiasts who have dreamed of going beyond the rifle-shooting basics but weren’t sure where to start, the Family Day at the Range series provides an opportunity. The sessions will offer training courses for participants who want to learn about or advance their knowledge of firearms safety. Attendees also will get the chance to shoot a variety of firearms.
The advanced rifle class part of the series is slated for 10 a.m.–
4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.  
The advanced rifle class focuses on firearm safety, shooting technique, sight picture and alignment, and how to resolve certain firearm malfunctions. Participants also will have the opportunity to handle and shoot various rifles, including lever action, bolt action, break action and semiautomatics.
The Family Day at the Range series also offers other courses, including basic shotgun, advanced shotgun, introduction to handguns and rifles and advanced handgun.
Registration is required, so save a slot by calling 770-784-3059. The series will be held rain or shine.
Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center is near Mansfield, less than an hour southeast of Atlanta off Interstate 20. The address is 543 Elliott Trail, Mansfield 30055. Family Day at the Range courses begin at the visitors center before participants head to the shooting range.
