Newman, Shuman combine to no-hit Groves over four innings in 17-0 win

After a rocky start, Richmond HillHigh School’s baseball team began Region 3-AAAAA play with a bang.

The Wildcats started things off on Friday at Grayson Stadium by blanking Groves 17-0. Pitchers Chandler Newman and Trey Shuman combined to no-hit the Rebels.

Newman went three innings with 10 strikeouts; Shuman wrapped things up by striking out the side in the fourth inning to preserve the mercy rule win.

The Wildcats led 5-0 after two innings and tacked on a dozen more runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Peyton Carter and Brian Carter both had a hit and two RBIs for the Wildcats, who improved to 2-5 overall and 1-0 in 3-AAAAA.

If the Wildcat’s region opener was over early, Richmond Hill’s second 3-AAAAA contest took an extra inning to decide.
Saturday, the Wildcats knocked off hostEffinghamCounty 4-2 in eight innings to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in 3-AAAAA.

Richmond Hilltook a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an error, sacrifice single and Peyton Carter’s RBI single.EffinghamCountyanswered with two runs in the bottom of  the third to take a 2-1 lead.

Richmond Hilltied the game in the top of the seventh with the help of a pair ofEffinghamCountyerrors and won it in the eighth on two errors and three consecutive singles, the last a perfectly executed squeeze bunt.

Richmond Hillgoes to 2-0 in 3A-AAAAA by beating Effingham Co. 4-2 in 8 innings. The lead was exchanged 4 times in another good game between longtime region foes. RH went ahead 1-0 in the third on an error, sacrifice bunt and rbi single by Peyton Carter. Carter went 2-4 in the game. Effingham took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning after two outs with a hit batter and two hits. RH tied it in the top of the 7th with the help of two Effingham errors and won it in the eighth on 2 errors and three straight singles- the last a perfectly executed squeeze bunt. 

J.M. Ringer earned the win forRichmond Hill. Carter and Justin Henle both went 2-for-4 for the Wildcats, who take onWayneCountytonight.
