Bryan County swept by Toombs in hoops doubleheader
Dixon pours in 40 for the Redskins in losing effort

Toombs County High School swept Bryan County in a Region 2-AA basketball doubleheader Tuesday night in Pembroke.

The Lady Redskins fell 70-50 in the opener despite 18 points from Diamond McGirt. The Lady Redskins led 35-34 at halftime.

Kajana Dixon poured in 40 points for the Redskins in the nightcap, a 72-66 loss.

The Redskins trailed by more than 20 points at times in the second half before making a late run.

All-Region picks for spring sports announced
RHHS Wildcats

Richmond Hill placed several players on their respective All-Region teams in Region 2-AAAAAA for tennis and soccer after all four teams made it to their respective state tournaments this spring.

In girls’ soccer, first-team selections were Grace Kiser, Ruthie Riley, Carly Vargas and Ellie Filamonczuk. Honorable mention went to Bella Martinez. Arianna Page and Lexi Merry.

For boys’ soccer, Joseph Petrino, Agboade Sobowale, Roman Alvarez, Trever Blitchington and Cristian Marquez made first team.

For girls’ tennis, Hannah Yontz, Megan Bausch and Stephanie Harter all made the second team at singles, as did the doubles team of Bailey Lopata and Caren Bausch.

For the boys, Jackson Martin was first team singles and Alec Shermer was second team singles. Zach Sewell received honorable mention.
