Bryan County basketball teams head into region tourney on winning note

Both Bryan County High School basketall teams will head into the Region 3-A tourney with wins under their belt. The No. 3 ranked Lady Redskins (22-3, 9-1) closed out the regular schedule with a 63-46 win over Southeast Bulloch on Saturday night in Brooklet.
The Redskins picked up their first win of the season by edging SEB 35-34.

Tournament look
The Lady 'Skins are the No.1 seed from the 3A-A side and have a first round bye for the opening round.
The team will play Thursday in Portal against the winner of Tuesday's Savannah Country Day-Jenkins County game.

Bryan County is led offensivley by Olivia Melvin with 20.1points a contest. Satshala Beasley is averaging 11.2 points a game and Tiffany Howard 10.6 points per game. Beasley leads Bryan County in rebounds with 10.2 a game, followed by Kim Williams with 8.7 per contest and Whitney Fields with 4.2 rebounds.

Coach Mario Mincey and his girls are anxious to get post-season play underway.

"We are ready for the region tournament to begin. We know that the tournament games will be a challenge, but we have one goal in mind and that is to get back to the state playoffs."

The Bryan County boys travel to Jenkins County in Millen for their first round game tonight against Emanuel County Institute, the No. 3 seed from Region 3B-A). Albert Chavis leads the boys in scoring with 8.9 points a game.
Coach Allen Clark hopes to carry some winning momentum into the tournament.

"We have played ECI three times this year and the last time we played well. I am curious to see how well we respond having to play them a fourth time. It is all about fundamentals and effort for me right now. I will have them as ready as we can be and we will see what happens."

Boys' first- and second-round games will be in Millen. Semi-finals and finals will be in Savannah at Savannah Country Day on Friday and Saturday.

In the girls' bracket, first- and second-round games will be played at Portal. The Semi-finals and finals will also be at Savannah Country Day on Friday and Saturday.
