Christopher Alvarez has signed with Brewton Parker College to continue his education and baseball career.

Alvarez played this summer for the Chain Baseball 18U summer baseball travel team. Chain won the USSSA AAA 18U World Series held in Kissimmee, Fla. from July 15-22.

The tournament was held at the Houston Astros spring complex.

In pool play, Chain Baseball defeated the Orlando Titans 9-7 and tied the Florida Hawks 2-2. In the championship double elimination round, Chain blanked the Louisiana Crocs 8-0 and defeated the Minnesota Barons 4-3 in a twelve inning marathon game. Alvarez scored the winning run for Chain on a single by Clay Harrelson.

Chain then defeated the Michigan Hawks 8-3 to advance to the championship game as the only undefeated team in the winner’s bracket. In the championship game, Chain defeated the Michigan Hawks 4-3 to win the championship.

Chain went 5-0-1 in the tournament. Chain is coached by Robbie Smoak.

Alvarez graduated from Memorial Day School in June. In 2007: he played football, basketball and baseball for the Matadors. He was named Memorial Day School athlete of the year and was selected GISA 2AA All-Region in basketball and baseball.

Alvarez was a Wendy’s High School Heisman and Ashley Dearing Award nominee. He was also named Greater Savannah Baseball and Basketball honorable mention.

For the Matadors baseball team, Alvarez led the Matadors with a batting average of .623 and a fielding percentage of .989.

Alvarez has played on various Richmond Hill Recreation Association league, all-star and travel teams. His parents are Mike Alvarez and Vicki Fuller.
