The Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats played host to the Hilton Head Island Lady Seahawks on Friday, and cruised to a 53-20 win on Senior Night.

Seniors Cullen McCormick and Emari Brown, who have been staples of the program the last four years were honored as well as Zion Bernard and Faith Evans, who have both played critical roles in helping stabilize the program so far this season.

“I was super honored as a senior because it made me think about all the ups and downs I’ve been through, and how it’s not just about the games we won, but also the tough losses and how we bounced back together as a team,” senior Emari Brown said. “Just knowing that my contributions were valued, and that I left a mark, is an amazing feeling. and I’m so grateful for the chance to have experienced it with this group of amazing girls.”

Coming off of a loss against the Brunswick High School Lady Pirates, the Lady ‘Cats found themselves at .500 on the year, sitting at a 2-2 record, while playing three of four games on the road. After their convincing win, the Lady ‘Cats improved to 3-2 on the year, while Hilton Head Island fell to 0-2.

The Lady ‘Cats set the tone early in the game, as they jumped ahead of Hilton Head Island 14-5 through the first period of play.

Hilton Head Island was able to narrow the gap in the second period, even though they still trailed for the period, but only gave up eleven points. Richmond Hill led the second period 11-5, and would then take a 25-10 lead into the break.

In the third period, Hilton Head Island scored their most points of any period in the evening, as they finished with seven points. But they were unable to contain the Lady ‘Cats’ offense, as they also scored their most points in a period on the night, with sixteen. The Lady ‘Cats took a dominant 41-17 lead into the final period of play.

In the fourth and final period, the Lady ‘Cats’ defense had its best performance in a period for the game, as they held Hilton Head Island to just three points in the entire period. Richmond Hill’s offense also responded with twelve points in the period, as they would close out the game at 53-20.

“We won this game because we became one as a team, instead of playing alone,” Brown said. “We started shooting at higher percentages. We gave good assists and we talked on the court.”

During the first game of the season, Richmond Hill (4-2) made the trip over to Brunswick to play Glynn Academy (4-4), and they escaped with a 36-33 win. This time it will be Glynn Academy’s turn to travel, as the Lady Terrors will travel to Richmond Hill, in hopes of getting the win back, as well as ending the Lady ‘Cats two game win streak. Richmond Hill is looking to drop the Lady Terrors under .500 for the season. Tip off for the game is set for 6pm.

“If we come out as we did our last 3 games we will be unstoppable,” Brown said.
