Kings Ferry landing work delayed

SAVANNAH - Chatham County has fired the contractor for a parking lot project at the Kings Ferry boat ramp in the southwest portion of the county, delaying access to the ramp by recreational boaters.

County officials say Florida-based RK General Contracting was supposed to complete the $573,000 project by last month, but only about half of it is done.

Officials say the contractor's bonding agent has 25 days to decide whether to find a replacement or let the county bring in someone else.

Suzanne Cooler, a senior engineer for the county, says the project is expected to take up to 60 days to complete once a new contractor is hired.

General Contracting officials could not be reached for comment.
