Former Richmond Hill High School Wildcat football star, Brian Hughes Jr., has signed a contract to play professionally with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League.

The 6’3”, 210 lb. speedy defensive back will continue his football career after leading both Bethel University and Kentucky Christian University to the playoffs in their respective conferences in back to back seasons. Hughes also received 2nd Team All-Mid-South honors while at Bethel after recording 84 tackles, 1 interception, 6.5 tackles for losses, and 2 pass deflections.

It seems to be apparent that wherever the dedicated DB plays they seem to be in the playoffs year after year. Edmonton has won 14 Grey Cup Championships, which is comparable to the NFL Super Bowl.

The Elks open up on Saturday, June 8, 2024 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, at Commonwealth Stadium.
