Halloween 5K, fun run in Pembroke

Pembroke and the Downtown Development Authority will host the annual 5K/10K and Spooktacular festival Saturday in the city.
The 5K and 10K begin and end at Bryan County High School. Costumes are encouraged, but face masks are not allowed.
The races are at 8 a.m., and there is a “Monster Mash Dash” for kids 10 and younger at 7:30.
The festival, which runs from 10 a.m.-
2 p.m. at DuBois Square, will include a pumpkin-carving contest, hayrides, hot dogs, a bounce house and balloons for kids, games, face painting, crafts, bake sales and the first-ever “Smoketacular Bar-B-Q Cook-off.” Winners will be announced at 2 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., “How to Train Your Dragon 2” will be shown in DuBoise Square. The movie is free.
Proceeds from the run will help provide a walking and fitness trail in the city.
