Eagles ranked No. 1 for first time since 2001

STATESBORO, Ga. - For the first time since 2001, the Georgia Southern Football team sits a top both the Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Poll and the FCS Coaches Poll. The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start in 2011 but will have the week off before playing Western Carolina on Sept. 24.

The 2001 Eagles remained NO. 1 1 following the 2000 National Championship and started the season 7-0 before losing to East Tennessee State 19-16 on October 27, 2001. GSU finished that season 12-2 and Southern Conference Champions.

Single game and season tickets are still on sale through the Georgia Southern Athletic Ticket Office. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-478-9467 (GSU-WINS) or online at GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Wildcats compete in 7-on-7 football

On June 13, the Richmond Hill Wildcats football team competed at a 7-on-7 football camp hosted at Statesboro by Georgia Southern’s football program. Various other high school programs in the southeast Georgia region were in attendance.
