Just a little over two months ago the Richmond Hill High School wrestling team was founded.
A few special athletes were ready to learn and compete in a sport that most had never seen and knew even less about. On Feb. 6, this young Richmond Hill wrestling team traveled to Brunswick and took on 5-AAAAA region champion, Glynn Academy.
The effort was mighty, but the results were predictable. Out of 11 matches the novice Wildcat wrestlers managed only two victories.
Instead of being despondent the team demonstrated that as far as the young wrestlers have come there are still many more steps to take.
This was the final match for this year but enthusiasm remains high.
During the first year, nine wrestlers have winning records. Six of these young athletes will return next year.
Thirty-three different competitors wrestled matches for Richmond Hill this year. Many are planning to attend wrestling camp over the summer. This is just another beginning for a great group of young athletes.
The wrestling team will hold its banquet on Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
