It has been a rough but amazing season for the Bryan County Redskins, finishing their schedule with 5 wins and 19 losses. Last Tuesday night, the Redskins found a victory against Pierce County 44-34, but lost an exciting game to Claxton 40-37 Friday night. Saturday night’s game saw another loss 52-41 against Metter.

"We’ve seen a lot of progress throughout the season," said Bryan County coach Keith Bazemore. "We look forward to continuing to build our underclassmen along with the future of our team."

One thing is for certain, Redskin fans have seen several BCHS freshmen find their talent this season, notably Willie DeLoach and Winston Johnson.

Tuesday night brought the Pierce County Bears to Bryan County for a well-deserved rematch.

Turnovers quickly became a problem for the Bears in the first quarter, but missed 3-point shots proved disastrous for the Redskins.

Midway through the second quarter Trey Boatright sank a 3 from downtown to put Bryan County in the lead, where they stayed for the remainder of the game.

Even though Pierce County shot an amazing 73 percent for 15 free-throws, 3-point buckets by Trey Boatright (4 for 5) were enough to stabilize the Redskins’ lead. Eight rebounds by both Boatright and DeLoach gave Bryan County the edge to take the 44-34 victory.

Scoring – Trey Boatright 17, Willie DeLoach 12, Alkeem Collins 7, DJ McElroy 4, Stephen Ranger 2, and Winston Johnson 2.

Friday was Senior Night at Red Bowers Memorial Fieldhouse, where the Redskins jumped to 4 point lead halfway through the first quarter.

However, Claxton found the opportunities to capitalize on Bryan County turnovers and missed shots in the second quarter to close the gap.

The game remained tied in the fourth quarter at 31, until Claxton was able to make a layup and get fouled, bringing the Tigers a 3 point lead.

Easy baskets soon gave Claxton a 7 point advantage. Two quick steals by Winston Johnson and Alkeem Collins brought the score within 2 with seconds left.

Trey Boatright, who sunk the threes so skillfully earlier in the week, shot a 3-point buzzer shot which bounced off the rim. Claxton walked away with a narrow victory 40-37.

Scoring – Stephen Ranger 13, Willie DeLoach 8, Trey Boatright 4, Alkeem Collins 4, Winston Johnson 4, Berry Spencer 2, and Jermaine Byrd 2.

Saturday night the Redskins traveled to Metter for their last game of the regular season where Redskin Alkeem Collins put Bryan County on the board with a 3-point shot.

The score in first half of play remained low due to turnovers and missed 3-pointers (6 for 18) on most possessions.

Bazemore called timeout as Metter outscored Bryan County 7-2 in the first 3 minutes of the second quarter.

Missed layups and turnovers saw Bryan County slip even lower on the scoreboard. Metter held the victory 52-41.

Scoring – Willie DeLoach 14, Alkeem Collins 13, Stephen Ranger 8, Trey Boatright 5, and DJ McElroy 1.
