SAVANNAH — The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department Marine Patrol unit will conduct a boating-safety course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Metro training facility next to Dillard’s on the second floor of the Savannah Mall.
The course is free and is required of boaters of certain ages prior to operating certain vessels. The class is limited to 25 participants. The next class will be Sept. 21.
On July 1, 2014, a new mandatory-education law will require anyone born after Jan. 1, 1998, who operates a powerboat in Georgia to have completed a Department of Natural Resources-approved boat-education course.
For more information or to register, call the training facility at 912-921-5450 or the SCMPD Marine Patrol at 912-353-1004.
