Big weekend for Richmond Hill anglers

Richmond Hill High School anglers reeled in a number of big fish, and finishes, over the Feb. 25-26 weekend.

Saturday, RHHS juniors Branton Champion and Jackson Behringer qualified for the Student Angler National Championship, which will be held June 20-24 on the Mississippi River in LaCrosse, Wisc.

The two qualified for the national championship by placing fourth out of 90 boats at the Student Angler Federation Georgia State Championship at West Point Lake. Richmond Hill’s team finished with a five-fish limit weight of 12.10 pounds.

Sunday, Wildcat anglers placed first, second, third and caught the biggest fish at the first Georgia High School Kayak Fishing tournament of the year held at the Evans County Public Fishing Area. Eighteen anglers competed in the tournament.

Placing first was Champion while Aiden Pluff and Owen Osden took second and third, respectively.

Garrick Freeze brought home the biggest bass trophy with a bass that measured 18 inches.
