Emari Brown has been a strong force for the Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats’ basketball team the last two years and her hard work has recently paid off, as she has just earned her first collegiate offer from the University of Fort Lauderdale.

“This first offer means a lot because it proves that hard work truly pays off,” Brown said. “I’ve learned that I can’t just sit back and wait to be noticed; I have to show up and make myself known.”

Brown did just that, as she and the rest of the Lady ‘Cats competed in the Camden County High School tournament in Kingsland, Georgia, where she was able to show enough to pick up that first offer.

“Earning my first offer at the Camden Shootout felt incredible, especially because it came from playing together with my team,” Brown said. “We shared the ball, communicated on defense, and stayed aggressive throughout the tournament.”

While it’s still early as she begins her senior year in August, Brown is already preparing for college by deciding early on what she would like to major in.

“Looking ahead, I’m excited to study psychology in college, and my ultimate goal is to play in the WNBA,” Brown said. “As long as I continue to dedicate myself to improving my game and maintaining a positive attitude, I believe I can achieve anything I set my mind to.”

Although her sister Jada Brown just committed to Division Two’s Newberry College to play basketball, Emari hopes to create her own path in her journey.

“It’s important to me that I’m recognized as Emari Brown, and my sister as Jada Brown,” Brown said. “We’re individual players with our own unique strengths, and I want people to see us that way.”

Brown will be one of two returning starters this season for the Lady ‘Cats, as she will be joined by Cullen McCormick. Both returners will be seniors, looking to lead a young group of Lady ‘Cats into the playoffs again.
