We’re poured into society’s mold
pastor corner

Romans 12:2 instructs Christ followers “not to be conformed to this world” but to rather be transformed or changed. This carries with it the idea that we should not allow the world to pour us into its mold.

The other day I was walking through Walmart and noticed an adult in his pajamas. My first thought was how this was now acceptable, while a few years ago an employee might have asked him to leave the store.

My purpose for mentioning this is not to give an opinion that this is wrong but to use it as an illustration on how the opinion of society can change. I personally wouldn’t wear this myself in a store, but I wouldn’t consider it a sin either.

But there are things that society or the world has changed its views on that are sinful. It is tempting to allow ourselves to follow the view of our society and go down that road ourselves.

One example is sex before marriage. The view of society is that it is OK if one is old enough or protected. God’s word sets certain standards or boundaries for sexual intimacy.

As followers of Christ, we are to resist the pull of society to convince us to accept its views. We must resist this and allow God through Jesus Christ to continue to transform us into people who do those things that please our Heavenly Father.
