The value in planting seeds
pastor corner

In 1 Corinthians 3:6 the author, who is Paul, states the value of planting the word of God in the lives of others.

Paul says, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”

What he is saying is that each one of us as followers of Jesus can be one of many who have a part in seeing someone become a follower of Jesus themselves.

I thought of a story the other day that illustrates this truth. When I was a pastor in a certain church several years ago, a man came into the service and wanted to talk with me afterwards. He had been picked up in a church bus from that church as a child many years earlier and had been taught the importance of living a life as a follower of Jesus. He never made any decision during those few years and when he became a teen he stopped going to church altogether. But the truth of the matter is that the seed had been planted into his life. Possibly others who crossed his path between childhood and the day he entered our church that day watered that seed.

Definitely, that day when I shared with him and prayed with him after the service, he was ready to ask the Lord into his life.

Sometimes we share with others about Jesus, and we don’t see immediate results and get discouraged. We need to remember that our responsibility is not to save people but only to plant the seed or add water to it; it is only God that can save them.

So, keep speaking about Jesus and keep offering a lost world the hope that you have received. You could easily meet people in heaven that will thank you for your faithfulness; some who you never realized you had a part in their decision to follow Jesus.
