The life of Isaac, part 6
pastor corner

To fully appreciate the Bible and its truths, much study is needed.

Those who merely scoff and mock the veracity of this book reveal they have never studied deeply enough to grasp its message. As we continue to dig deeply into the life of an Old Testament character named Isaac, we find there are so many similarities to the life of Christ till we are amazed.

Consider this fact, Isaac was not born until after his aged parents were incapable of having children.

His birth was a miraculous fulfillment of God’s promise. The birth of Jesus occurred even though Mary was a virgin. Please understand, God gave life where there was none, in Abraham and Sarah’s womb, and in Mary’s womb – placed there by the Holy Spirit. What the natural man needs first and foremost is not education, not reformation nor any other earthly experience. What the natural man needs most is Life.

Without life nothing else can happen.

The natural man needs spiritual life because the Bible teaches us that without Christ we are simply dead. “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:1-2). Before God can do a work in anyone’s life, that person must realize that he is dead spiritually. This means that he is lost and under the control of sin.

Without a change of direction that soul is bound for hell (Don’t hear that much anymore, do you?). In our generation it seems to me that most people believe they are Christians, yet they seem to know nothing about death caused by sin. They are alive in all human ways, they love, laugh, eat, drink, sleep and work, but they are dead spiritually. They have no relationship with God and seem unaware this is the case. You are not a Christian because your parents or grandparents were, nor because you went to church as a child and perhaps were baptized. One becomes a Christian when awareness of spiritual death is recognized and that one’s life is controlled by sin and ungodliness. Awareness leads to confession, repentance and then forgiveness by the Lord. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9). This is the new birth, this is what happens when a person is “born again” and a new spiritual life has been begun.
