One of the saddest and disappointing stories in scripture in when a whole generation of children of God had passed away and the next generation knew nothing about Him.
We find this story in Judges chapter 2 where it reads like this: “After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel”.
The big question is, how did this happen? Maybe it was the poor example set by the parents in front of their children. In other words, the life they lived didn’t match the things they taught. Or maybe these parents failed to teach the truth that they had been taught or failed to tell the stories of God’s faithfulness to their children.
Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, ‘Train up a child in the way they should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.’
What lesson can we learn from this and what can we do to keep this from happening?
1. Make sure that our faith in Jesus is sincere and strong.
2. Make sure that we take time to teach those that come after us the ways of the Lord.
3. Take our kids and grandkids to church where what we teach them can be supported.
4. Pray daily for our family including our kids and grandkids.
