Stories, smile, personality will be missed

Dear editor: Richmond Hill has lost a treasured storyteller, historian and first-class lady in Shirley Hiers. Through her writing, she could draw out the most remarkable details of any topic and generate an interest in everything from 1950s basketball players to long-forgotten men and women who still had stories to tell.
A couple of years ago, Shirley did a piece on Mike Casey’s house being torn down. Through the very moving article, one truly could see why this old house meant so much and why many in the Hill were sad to see it go.
For more than a few Bryan County News readers, Shirley’s article was the first thing read when we picked up the paper. Shirley, her beautiful smile and her insightful stories will be greatly missed.
