Showing Christ to the world
pastor corner

Every year in the holiday season one sees people acting as they should all the time.

People seem more interested in taking care of their fellow man. That spirit of giving is one that should be seen all year long. That is the way God would have it to be, just as He has given so much for man for all time. John wrote, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). This great love should be taken personally, God loves every person.

During the time that Jesus was on the earth there were those who did not like Him.

They tried time and time again to cause Him problems.

These people (called Pharisees) asked Jesus a question to see how well He knew the Law of Moses. They said, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matt.

22:36-40). In answering this question, Jesus showed how mankind should act everyday not just a few days every year. Everyone should remember how the early Christians acted toward God and each other. They obeyed the gospel of Christ, and then began to care for each other. “And all that believed were together and had all things common” (Acts 2:44); “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common” (Acts 4:32).

This attitude of caring for others should not be unusual for the child of God. It should be the way they live their lives, always seeking to do good to others and to show and share the love of God with those about them. “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Gal.

6:10). “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of other”. (Phil. 2:3-4). As is seen in these passages one messes up when they only thing about themselves and not others. Day to day life gets busy, people start thinking about how “they” can get ahead and soon thinking of others goes by the wayside.

Looking at the words of Jesus and the love God showed to the world should cause men to show love and care to all, especially those who are Christians. The holiday season spirit needs to be seen every day. The only way this will ever happen is for each person to make the effort to look beyond their things and look to the needs of others.
