Seek God
pastor corner

Jesus concluding the “Sermon on the Mount” said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof ” (Matt. 6:33,34). Jesus said to put God first in one’s life, and not to concentrate on the physical things of this life. Yet often people put money and belongings before God.

Mankind needs to believe God. Put Him first, care for families, provided for them, but do not let the physical things get in the way service and devotion to God.

All should be seeking to please God. In His word He has told how to be saved. The Holy Scriptures tell of the importance of faith. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Heb. 11:6). Some would stop here, but God’s word tells that there is more to be done.

God commands repentance of sins. “And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). Why is it so hard to believe God?

Man is to have faith in Jesus as the Son of God, repent of our sins, and then confess the name of Christ as the Son of God. “…And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8:38). Next be baptized for the remission of sins, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, …(Acts 2:38). If this passage is not plain enough Peter makes it even plainer, “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (I Peter 3:21). Again, it must be asked, “What are you seeking?

May all come to trust in God for the blessings of this life and the blessing of salvation given to man by God.

This has always been a struggle for mankind. When man looks about and sees the great blessings God has provided, they forget that very thing, God provided not them.

During the time of Jeremiah God’s people were guilty of forgetting who had blessed them.

Instead of seeking God, they sought idols and riches. They mistreated their fellow man and mistreated God. Instead of worshipping Him and Him alone they would worship idols one day and then on the Sabbath would worship God. God was sorely displeased with His children.

Because they were not seeking God, He sent the nation of Babylon to chastise His children.

The things they enjoyed, things God had given to them, God took away from them by the hands of the Babylonians.

They failed to seek God. The lesson is given so mankind can see the follow of not seeking God.

Mankind must obey God’s words not the ideas of mankind. All should be seeking God.
