Satan is still at work
pastor corner

In the world there are many dangerous things. Today terrorism is seen continually. Nations threaten other nations. There are enemies all over the world. Mankind spends billions of dollars to keep enemies at bay, but the one enemy that is behind all the evil in the world is not thought of by most.

Man’s greatest enemy is Satan.

God made a great and peaceful world in which man could live and Satan spoiled it all. His every goal is wicked and evil. If he could only be seen as he is described by Peter, “as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8) then maybe people would take Peter’s advice.

Satan is at work on the world stage, but also in the lives of ordinary people. Satan works in ways that some never suspect. For instance, Satan lies. This is seen in man’s first encounter with Satan. In the Garden of Eden, mother Eve was overcome by the lies of Satan. God had told them, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Gen. 2:16, 17). Satan knew God had told Adam and Eve the truth. Yet he tells Eve, “Ye shall not surely die: (Gen. 3:4, 5). He promised to make her as wise as God. Eve was taken in by this deceit.

She fell pray to the “lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16). So many today get caught up in sin this same way. Lust leads to spiritual death. James put it this way, “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren” (James 1:13 – 16).

Satan leads people to believe that God really does not mean what He has said. God has told in His word that baptism is for salvation (1 Peter 3:21), yet Satan has people believing that baptism is not important. Do not forget Adam and Eve were cast from the garden, and death entered the world because they listened to Satan’s lie. Mankind needs to learn from their mistakes and not believe Satan’s lies else they will lose their souls.

Satan even tried to tempt Jesus.

Satan tried to use God’s words to entrap the Lord. He quoted the Psalmist, “for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone (Matt.

4:6). He was tempting the Lord to tempt the words of His Father. It was true that Jesus would have been protected from such harm, yet this portrayal of Him as the Messiah was not as God had planned. Also, Jesus knew the scriptures well and used them to overcome this temptation.

“Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God,” (Deut. 6:16). It is seen by this encounter that those who would seek God’s approval in their life should study His word and live by those words.

Everyone, great or small need to be aware of the workings of Satan.

The only way to do that is to read and study God’s word. God has provided all man needs for salvation in sacrificing His only begotten Son Jesus at Calvary. Satan is still working but so is the Lord. If one follows the Lord, obeys the gospel and lives as a Christian ought, Satan will not win a victory over them.
