Regular spiritual checkups
pastor corner

Most younger adults only go to the doctor when they get sick but as a person gets older it is more important to get a regular check-up.

There was a time when I went just once every year but during the last couple of years, including this week, my doctor has insisted that it be every 6 months.

They do blood work, x-rays, an EKG, and a few other things to make sure I am ok. There are some folks I have known that never got a check-up and suffered the consequences; their life ended earlier than it could have.

I think it is more important that we regularly have a spiritual check-up.

David said in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

In other words David is asking God to investigate his conduct, even examining his thoughts. He is also asking God to look deep inside and reveal anything wrong in his life and lead him down the right path. The “Living Bible” says it this way, “Point out anything you find in me that makes you sad”.

The most important truth about us must be that we have a relationship with our heavenly Father, which comes about by accepting the salvation offered through His Son, Jesus.

Then once that relationship has been established, it can only grow through regular check-ups.
