As I am looking out of my office window, I see rain pouring down which is a good thing since recently I have found myself praying for rain in that we have had rainfall deficits most of this year.
Rain can have very positive results but also very negative results. We need rain to water plants and trees for them to be able to grow. We need rain to replenish our drinking water sources. Rain also washes away pollution, dust, and pollen from the air.
On the negative side, too much rain is also responsible for major destruction from flooding, soil erosion, and landslides.
The scripture reminds us that the tongue can be like rain in that it can have positive as well as negative results. We find this truth in James 3:10 where it states, “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” In other words, what we say can either build someone up or it can tear them down.
Each day may we allow God’s Spirit to guide us in what we do but also in what we say.
