Prioritizing one’s life
pastor corner

I often ask myself these questions each day: what is most important to me and what do I possess that really matters? This leads to another question which is, if a flood or a fire destroys my house and possessions, what would I really miss?

The answer was, not much, actually very little.

At the top of what really matters should be my relationship with my heavenly Father. Mark 8:36 reminds us of this truth when it states, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul”. Everything else will eventually rot and decay and we will be left with only our eternal destiny.

Our relationships with others should be of secondary priority. When disaster strikes, the loss of things really doesn’t matter compared to the loss of people.

If we have good positive relationships and have God in our lives, then we are wealthy people.

Lastly, we need to put ourselves and our needs last. We need to follow the example of Jesus Christ as is said about Him in scripture, that He came to serve not to be served.

One way to remember our correct priority is through the acrostic of the word joy; Jesus, others, and then yourselves.

So, what areas of your life do you need to reprioritize?
